While I was away

While I was away, my family let themselves in and

• Put up a pair of heavy curtains to keep the cold out
• Shifted my coat-rack six inches along the wall to make it easier for me to get in
• Fixed the loose door on my wardrobe
• Put in three lightbulbs
• Gathered my pens in a jar
• Got me a chair, a wooly cushion and a pair of thick tights (and mended the old ones) as well as two big bars of posh dark chocolate
• Left a card, signed by all of them, on my kitchen table.

It was only my name-day.
